Being Erica is a Canadian comedy-drama television series aired on CBC from January 5, 2009 to December 12, 2011. One of my favorite tv series. There was an interview with Jana Sinyor, the creator mentioned that there may be an America version. Will it really happen? Hope this is happening.

Opening dialogue: “You don’t have friend you had, the girl who seems to have all figured out. She’s got the great job, the great guy, the great life, well I am not that girl, my name is Erica Strange, I am 32, still working at dead-end job, still sleeping with my cat, I know people who wonder why the cute girl with the great education and then the great friends can get it together, there is a simple answer : Bad Decision, I could teach a course on messing up your life with I am that good to get everything wrong, the worst part is, it wasn’t always like this, are you still a rising star these day?”

Thirty-two year old Erica Strange had high education but fired by company which she worked, his boss commented her as too “bright” for the job. She believed that the bad decision she made in life that made her have bad life. She gets dump by her new dated boyfriend, and gets hospitalized for drinking coffee nuts which she is allergic to. Erica later meets a self-proclaimed therapist Dr. Tom in hospital. Dr. Tom left her a name card to see him, but Erica has hesitation on therapy; With family pressure which everyone at home seems thinking that her life is so mess up, Erica escapes from home to meet Dr. Tom. Erica thinks she screw up everything “with bad choices. Most people has few regrets, she got tones, there are so many things that I will do it differently”. Dr. Tom asks Erica to write down her regrets and requires her to make a commitment to complete till end of the whole therapy session. Erica cannot make up her mind. Dr. Tom then sends her back to her high school party which originally Erica ruins her high school party to fix it. She does make a different choice, instead of mess up with alcohol, she saved her friend but in an embarrassing way sort of. End of the party,

Erica says to the teacher “you seems nice and normal on my age…the really unbelievable thing is that I screw it up again. I am such an idiot”, her teacher says “actually I was thinking that you did what you have to do to get your friend who needed…I say that it’s brave, I know that you have difficult night, and I know that some of these student will gonna to talk.” Erica says “story of my life”.

Erica then goes back home, meets her parents and sort of boyfriend. She decides that she decide to blow off the sort of boyfriend. Instead she goes to find Dr. Tom, his office has become a café. Dr. Tom will have next session wit Erica. Erica believes that she fails again. She care about other people’s saying.

Dr. Tom says we don’t have to do anything…I never expect you to stop caring, Erica, I just want you to stop letting that get in your way, you didn’t fail Erica, what are your parents’ opinions, your friends opinions, of course there are always gonna matter but that’s do matter as much as your own. Dr. Tom will see Erica soon

Ending dialogue: change, sometimes it’s up and new, sometimes it hits you over the head, and sometimes you turn a corner only find your friend in some small way and the world is not quite it used to, so where I go from here, no idea, and for the first time, I feel like there is a good thing.

How many regrets do you have in life ? We are never able to change the past like Being Erica(TV), Sliding doors(Movie), Butterfly Effects(Movie) etc. We can’t turn back time like Dr. Tom, When we think back, and connect the dots, is that destiny, fate or serendipity that we are never able to escape to a different path? We are never able to find the answer ? The present and the future are the key.
